The Building & Codes Department is responsible for inspecting homes and businesses, issuing building permits and business licenses, lot maintenance and enforcement of the Town's Nuisance Ordinance.

The Town of Fort Mill currently enforces the following codes:

Building Code: 2006 Edition of the International Building Code, as modified by the South Carolina Building Codes Council, excluding appendices.

Residential Code: 2006 Edition of the International Residential Code, as modified by the South Carolina Building Codes Council, excluding appendices.

Existing Building Code: 2006 Edition of the Existing Building Code, excluding appendices.

Fire Code: The 2006 Edition of the International Fire Code, as modified by the South Carolina Building Codes Council, excluding appendices.

Plumbing Code: 2006 Edition of the International Plumbing Code, excluding appendices.

Mechanical Code: 2006 Edition of the International Mechanical Code, excluding appendices.

Fuel Gas Code: 2006 Edition of the International Fuel Gas Code, as modified by the South Carolina Building Codes Council, excluding appendices.

Energy Conservation Code: 2006 International Energy Conservation Code.

Electrical Code: 2008 Edition of the National Electrical Code, as modified by the South Carolina Building Codes Council, excluding appendices.

Property Maintenance Code: The 2006 edition of the International Property Maintenance Code.

Swimming Pool, Spa & Hot Tub Code: 2009 Edition of the Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa & Hot Tub Code, as published by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials.

When are building inspections required?

To request a building inspection, please email the contractor’s name, phone number, the address where the inspection needs to be made and the type of inspection to David Parnell.
