ANNOUNCEMENT FROM PUBLIC WORKS, EFFECTIVE MARCH 28, 2011:
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: It is against the law for the Town of Fort Mill Public Works Department to collect Computer Monitors, Televisions and Printers as well as parts of any of these items for disposal at the York County Landfill. Town residents will be required to dispose of these items at any of the 16 York County Collection and Recycling Centers. York County has two locations in Fort Mill along US Highway 160, one near the Village of Baxter (across from Wendy’s and Harris Teeter) and one across from the Leroy Springs Recreation Complex. For any specific disposal questions regarding this state law please visit www.scdhec.gov/e-cycle or contact York County Landfill at 803-628-3186.

The Public Works Department goal is to provide professional and friendly services for the following:
Garbage/Recycling Collection
We operate all holidays on normal schedule except Christmas Day.

Recycling Information
The Town of Fort Mill currently accepts the following materials in our green recycle bins:
Aluminum cans
Cleaned glass containers - NO BROKEN GLASS PLEASE!!!
Plastic bottles #1 & #2: liter soda bottles, cooking oil bottles, peanut butter jars, detergent bottles and milk jugs
Newspapers
At this time the Town of Fort Mill only offers the recycling program to single family housing neighborhoods. For anyone wanting to recycle more products, York County offers two Recycling Centers on Hwy 160; across from the Leroy Springs Complex and across from Wendy’s in Baxter.
The York County Recycling Centers are open from 7am – 7pm and are closed on Sundays and Wednesdays. There is no proof of residency required. Curbside Pickup
We operate Monday - Friday. Items are picked up the same day as Garbage. We will remove tree limbs and debris that have been cut and moved to the road by the resident. Items such as appliances, furniture, cardboard boxes, etc., will be removed the same day. Construction material (i.e. building wood, fences, concrete, etc…) or any material placed by a Contractor will not be removed by the town.
As of October, 2011, LEAVES MAY BE RAKED TO THE CURB FOR PICK-UP.
Cemeteries
We own four cemeteries: Unity, Old Unity, Greenhill and Macedonia Cemeteries. Unity Cemetery is patrolled for damaged, faded, out-of-compliance items twice each year and those items are removed. Flowers that are new or are in good shape are not affected by the clean-up.
