Building Inspector - Administration Department

The Town of Fort Mill is currently accepting applications for a residential building inspector.

Job Duties:

  • Ensures the administration and enforcement of building codes and ordinances.
  • Inspects structures for compliance with building codes and ordinances and produces detailed records of inspections through the use of computers and specialized software.
  • Reviews plan specifications to ensure compliance with code and ordinance requirements.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such at the Building Official, contractors, developers, homeowners, state and local officials and general public.

Qualifications:

  • Requires vocational school diploma with vocational/technical training in civil or structural engineering with one to two years of experience in the construction or architectural field; or any combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
  • Must possess necessary certifications as required by South Carolina building codes council; or have the ability to obtain necessary certifications within first twelve months of employment.

Salary Range: 

Minimum: $35,708, Maximum: $49,990, with an excellent benefits package included.

Job Duties:

  • Installs, maintains and repairs water mains and lines; locates leaks.
  • Installs water taps.
  • Installs and repairs meters.
  • Operates various machines and equipment
  • Repairs pump stations and repairs / cleans sewer lines as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Training & Experience

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • One to two years of experience in equipment operations and / or utility maintenance work or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina state driver’s license.

Salary Range:

  • Starting salary: $12.05 per hour.
  • An excellent benefits package is also included.
